As we come to a close, Pastor Bartlett brings to light the last two essentials for living a successful Christian life: Determination and Discipline.
 
It is crucial that we are determined as Christians to continue pressing towards the mark. The mark for us is to be like Christ, and our pursuit is a collaboration between us and God. In order to win, we as Christians must follow strict spiritual rules. Discipline, just as for athletes, is a key component in achieving success in our Christian journey. We must continually practice self-control and commitment to our faith so we can win.
 
Ultimately, it is the combination of all 5 essentials in our Christian lives that will allow us to receive the ultimate eternal reward, a crown of righteousness from our Lord.

What good is a runner in a race if he focuses on what is behind him? It is important for us not to be consumed by our past but instead focus on our present and future. Paul makes it clear that we must forget what is behind us and look towards the future.

He explains the scripture Jeremiah 31:34, "...for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” and uses the story of Joseph and his brothers to illustrate the importance of not allowing the past to influence our decisions.
