There are five different meanings of the phrase “the Word of God,”: His decrees, personal addresses, words spoken through humans, the Bible, and Jesus Christ as the Word. Each form is divinely authoritative. The Canon of Scripture refers to the collection of books recognized as inspired by God. This canon began with the Ten Commandments and expanded through writings by Moses, Joshua, and prophets, completing around 435 B.C. The lesson emphasizes the authenticity of the established canon, noting that writings like the Apocrypha are excluded due to doctrinal inconsistencies and lack of divine authority. This ensures the Bible's reliability for Christian faith and practice.

In Galatians 3:19-22, Paul clarifies the purpose of the Law, emphasizing that it was given to highlight human transgressions and underscore the need for a Savior, until Christ, the promised offspring, arrived. The Law served to reveal the depth of human sin by transforming sin into explicit transgression, making the need for salvation evident. It was temporary and delivered through intermediaries, contrasting with the direct and permanent Abrahamic Covenant of promise, which required no mediator and was fulfilled unilaterally by God. Paul asserts that the Law and God's promises are not contradictory but complementary, as the Law exposes sin, leading individuals to the grace available through faith in Jesus Christ. This relationship between the Law and grace demonstrates that while the Law could not impart life or righteousness, it prepared humanity for the salvation offered through faith in Christ, thus aligning with God's ultimate redemptive plan.

Millennialism encompasses various interpretations regarding the thousand-year reign of Christ mentioned in Revelation. Amillennialism posits that this period is symbolic, representing Christ's spiritual reign in heaven and in the hearts of believers on Earth, with Christ's return bringing judgment and the resurrection of the saved and unsaved simultaneously. It sees the tribulation as ongoing throughout history until Christ's return, emphasizing the symbolic interpretation of Old Testament elements in light of Christ's work. Postmillennialism, on the other hand, views the millennium as an era characterized by the gradual spread of the Gospel and moral improvement, culminating in Christ's return after this period of widespread Christian influence, leading to the final judgment and the eternal state.

Historic Premillennialism, tracing back to the early church, posits Christ's return before the millennium, with a literal reign and distinct resurrections. Dispensational Premillennialism, arising in the 19th century, emphasizes a rapture before a tribulation period, followed by a literal 1,000-year reign. Premillennialism's weaknesses include the persistence of death and sin during the millennium, with final judgment delayed. Critiques of the rapture theory include complexities in interpreting scripture and symbolic imagery.

Eschatology, the study of "last things," encompasses fundamental Christian beliefs about the return of Christ, resurrection, final judgment, and eternal life. Despite its significance, barriers such as its perceived complexity and sensationalist interpretations hinder its study. However, understanding eschatology is crucial for the Christian faith, as it shapes beliefs, motivates missions, and provides hope amidst suffering. Properly grasping eschatological concepts guards against false hope and heretical interpretations. The structure of eschatology involves a tension between the "already" and "not yet," emphasizing the ongoing nature of salvation and fulfillment. A balanced perspective on eschatology is essential to navigate theological challenges and maintain a steadfast hope in the Christian journey.
