As the world descended into the Covid-19 pandemic, we as a church turned our eyes to the Lord through a devotional, Think on These Things.
This week, our scripture focus for the topic "A Peculiar People" is Titus 2:11-14. We learn how important it is for us to be reminded that in every situation our God is in control and He directs all things under the counsel of His will. This is a reassurance we desperately needed then and still need today.
Listen and be encouraged that we are a peculiar people and that we serve the Lord God whose Word will always come to pass.

The belief is that believers will not achieve sinless perfection in their earthly lives. Emphasis is placed on the importance of practicing righteousness and avoiding sin, as it impacts one's relationship with God. While sin affects fellowship with God, it is noted that it does not determine one's eternal destiny. Confession and repentance are deemed necessary for restoring fellowship, and believers may face consequences for unrepented sins. The perspective suggests that God might take drastic measures, such as physical death, to prevent believers from being condemned with the world.

In John 8:28-36, it is suggested that the Jews had a superficial faith, while genuine faith involves surrendering to Scripture and obeying God's Word. True discipleship is described as requiring abiding in Jesus' Word for freedom. Jesus is emphasized as the definitive way, truth, and life to the Father. Salvation is attained through a personal relationship with Jesus and His Word, bringing freedom from sin. Believers are set free from sin and error through the truth revealed in God's Word. The power of the Word of God is emphasized in freeing believers from sin, guilt, and condemnation. Knowing God's will requires obedience and faith. Believing in Jesus is portrayed as bringing spiritual freedom from various bondages. To know Christ, one must search Scriptures and earnestly seek Him, as exemplified by Paul's passion.

Paul emphasizes the defense of the genuine gospel, asserting that justification comes solely through faith, not works. He uses Abraham as an illustration, highlighting that Abraham was justified by faith even before circumcision and the introduction of the Law. Paul underscores the significance of Scripture as the channel through which God communicates. He argues that Gentiles, like Abraham, are justified by faith. The phrase "blessed with Abraham" denotes justification before God. Ultimately, Paul emphasizes Abraham's choice of salvation through grace and faith rather than relying on personal merit or good works.

Studying God's word is crucial for personal transformation. Believers have both a sinful and a new spiritual nature through the Holy Spirit, recognizing the impossibility of sinless perfection. Despite this, believers are urged to avoid sin, acknowledging that all inevitably sin. The irreversible new birth grants believers eternal life, and the Holy Spirit permanently resides in them, irrespective of sins. Fitness for heaven depends solely on Jesus Christ's finished work, and assurance of salvation comes from His righteousness, not personal righteousness. Salvation is a grace gift, not earned through obedience. Good works and the fruit of the Spirit serve as evidence of genuine faith.

In today's episode, Jesus tells the Jewish religious leaders that they will acknowledge Him as the Messiah after His crucifixion. He emphasizes the importance of speaking only what the Father has authorized and always pleasing Him. Genuine faith involves acknowledging and surrendering to the truth revealed in Scripture, obeying God's Word, and abiding in His Word as the rule of one's life. True disciples demonstrate their loyalty and obedience by continuing to abide in His Word, while false disciples reject it. The attitude towards the Word of God should be one of humility and reverence, determining the value of worship.

Paul appeals to the Galatian believers, highlighting their spiritual experiences and addressing the influence of false teaching on their departure from the Gospel of Grace. The lesson emphasizes that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ, irrespective of the era, and portrays justification as God's act, removing guilt and imparting righteousness. The term "sons of Abraham" refers to those who exercise faith for salvation, not necessarily his biological descendants. True children of Abraham are those who put their faith in God.

In today's episode, Jesus predicts that the Jewish religious leaders will ultimately recognize Him as the Messiah even after crucifying Him. He emphasizes his dependence on the Father and speaks only what the Father authorizes. Jesus stresses that genuine faith is demonstrated through obedience to God's Word, not just superficial belief. The parable of the seed sown on rocky ground symbolizes shallow conversions and false professions of faith. True faith goes beyond mere emotion and feelings; it requires trust, commitment, and communion with God.
