Who Is My Mother? Pt. 3 | Lesson 65 | Bible Study
In Galatians 4:24–26, Paul uses an allegory involving Hagar and Sarah to illustrate two contrasting covenants—one of law and bondage and the other of grace and freedom. Hagar represents the Mosaic Covenant given at Mount Sinai, symbolizing legalism, works-based righteousness, and spiritual slavery, whereas Sarah symbolizes the Abrahamic Covenant of grace, rooted in faith and God's promise. The allegory highlights the incompatibility of law and grace, with Ishmael representing human effort and Isaac embodying the miraculous work of God through faith. Paul contrasts the "present Jerusalem," enslaved by the law, with the "Jerusalem above," a spiritual and eternal city of freedom for those who live by faith in Christ.
