Positional sanctification initiates the believer's journey by setting them apart for faith in Jesus Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit, securing their perfect standing in Christ and breaking sin's power. Progressive sanctification follows, enabling believers to grow in grace and conform to Christ's image through active participation and obedience to God's word, sustained by the Holy Spirit's work within them. This ongoing process involves putting sin to death and striving for complete renewal after God's image, leading to ultimate sanctification or glorification in eternity. Both positional and progressive sanctification are crucial aspects of the believer's journey, with the absence of growth in holiness prompting questions about the authenticity of one's faith.
