A God-Made Covenant Pt. 1 | Lesson 42 | Bible Study
In Galatians 3:15-16, Paul emphasizes the unchangeable nature of God's covenant with Abraham, contrasting it with man-made agreements. He argues that the Mosaic Law, introduced later, does not supersede or alter the promises made to Abraham. The covenant with Abraham was unconditional, based on God's faithfulness, while the Mosaic Law introduced conditions and obligations on humanity. Paul uses the imagery of covenant-making, drawing from Abraham's covenant ceremony in Genesis 15, to illustrate God's commitment and grace. Just as God alone passed between the animal parts, symbolizing His sole responsibility for upholding the covenant, the New Covenant inaugurated through Christ similarly relies entirely on God's grace, forgiveness, and transformation of hearts, as outlined in Jeremiah and Ezekiel. This underscores the centrality of God's initiative and faithfulness in salvation, contrasting with human efforts and obligations under the Law.
